Our vineyard source is located in the middle of the Alexander Valley where warm afternoons allow for complete ripening and resolution of otherwise enormous tannins in the vineyard. The benchland site offers the best of viticultural conditions with well-drained, modest soils that allow for a healthy canopy and moderately sized crop; both key indicators of the prized ‘balance’ we seek as winemakers.
Our exclusive Merlot source sits east of Geyser Peak Winery on gravely bench land soil. As with many of our favorite vineyards, this site is divided into many small blocks, each of which we harvest and ferment separately to optimize each to its best potential.
Lively acidity in the grapes from our vineyard in Russian River Valley and the slow, steady temperatures of the growing season, led to the development of complex flavors and aromas in our Late Harvest Riesling.
Bin Series wines were created only in the greatest vintages, typically from Cabernet Sauvignon. Each Bin wine comes from select barrels from specially made reserve lots. There have been ten Bin wines since the series’ inception in 1995. The wines are designated in sequential order, by vintage, and labeled in the unassuming tradition of a laboratory-style label which designates the area, or bin, within the winery where the wines are aged.
This is the sixth vintage of this wine since we returned to an Alexander Valley appellation on our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Individual lots of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from select hillside vineyards, primarily from the central and northern, warmer areas of the valley, form the core of this wine’s character.
